Back In THE BRONX:
Your passport
to travel back in time.
Every issue of Back In THE BRONX magazine is designed to rekindle a unique brand of happy memories. Complete Bound Sets of Issues I-XXVIII and Issues XIX-XXXIV are available in our online gift shop under Books.
Back In THE BRONX is about a time and place that only a fraction of Americans can relate to. It is about growing up in a place that only those who experienced it could possibly understand. It is about a special energy that came from the brick and mortar and asphalt world of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s in the Bronx. It was more than the tenements; it was the energy that came from the people. Each neighborhood was like a play with a cast of characters as diverse as their countries of origin, yet intermingled in a way that made every day growing up in the Bronx the stuff that memories are made of.
The stories you will read are, for the most part, written not by professional writers or authors, but by people like yourself who want to share their experiences with fellow Bronxites. We began publishing Back In THE BRONX in 1992, and, since our first issue, we have brought back memories of hot August nights at Freedomland, and reported on summer dances under the stars at Poe Park. We shared stories about the "Fordham Baldies' as remembered by a former Roosevelt High Sschool teacher, along with the keen observations of a Bronxite describing the essence of "The Egg Cream Mystique" and "Bronx Style Fishing" that graphically describes "fishing" for coins below a subway grating. The stories go on and on. We here at Back In THE BRONX always do our best to see that the stories are fresh and fascinating.
The success of Back In THE BRONX depends on two important things:
1. The continued contributions of our subscribers, who tell their stories and share their precious photographs (which are returned) and adding new names to our ever-growing Bronx database, and,
2. The continued interest of more than 23,000 former and current subscribers who have made Back In THE BRONX a second family.
Subscribe today, and, while you're at it, subscribe for a friend or two. Your subscription is your passport to travel back in time, back to the old neighborhood, and back to good times with great people, fellow Bronxites such as yourselves. Remember your subscription includes a free 40 word ad (see back cover of magazine) which is an easy way to find lost neighborhood friends and school chums and to create new friendships. But, perhaps most important, your subscription is your path back to some wonderful times.
